Cross Fit Mid-West Champion

     Owner of TNT Fitness Results, Derek Toshner, won the Upper Mid-West CrossFit Challenge in Madison for the second year in a row last January 2011. Yes, the head trainer at TNT Fitness and the guy you all know and love was declared to be the best all-around fitness athlete in the mid-west.

 

     It was a grueling two day competition which saw Derek prove the effectiveness of his kettlebell training, as he went on to win three of the seven events, and placed 10th, 2nd, 7th, and 3rd in the other four (3 rounds of 400m run + 21 swings + 12 chest to bar pull ups; max weight clean and jerk, 70m handstand walk, 3000m steeple chase, max weight dead-lift, 5-min rope climb, Heavy Fran). The champion was decided by a points system (1st=1 point, 2nd=2pts, 3rd=3 points, etc.) with the competitor with the lowest score at the end declared the winner. When the competition was over, Derek had earned the title for the second straight year.  He even broke the gym's record deadlift with an impressive 530lb rep. Derek was quoted as saying, "I could have done more," although the previous record was held by him from last year at 506.
     Derek may be an elite athlete, but this more evidence to the benefits one can recieve from kettlebell training. Most of the exercises performed in the competition were ones that Derek had not been performing  since his college days, or ever at all, for that matter. To see him go down and perform as well as he did with little practice, other than kettlebell training, is truly a testimony to the functional strength gained by his style of training at TNT.  So words of encouragement to all those who still are not buying it, kettlebell training does work and can have amazing results when performed properly through the teachings of an RKC.
